Steroids –
anabolic steroids are often used by athletes to increase performance. However, there are a number of negative effects of steroids on human body. Not to be fooled by thinking about any perfect steroid, as there isn’t any. All steroids carry some type of the side effects in one form or another.
The lower doses of the anabolic steroids are sometimes taken for treating a handful of very serious medical conditions. Steroids are often used by the body builders, athletes, sprinters, sports persons, soccer players, wrestlers, baseball players, swimmers, etc. to step up their performance.
Steroids are taken orally in form of pills, or injected with a needle and typically in intervals of weeks or months. It’s important to note here that the athletes, who share needles for injecting the steroids, are at higher risk of serious infections including Hepatitis B and HIV, the AIDS virus. Steroids cannot improve the agility or skill of the athlete.
Side effects of steroids can cause the serious health problems. There are many changes that take place inside the body and may not be observed until it’s too late. There are many harmful effects of steroids that cause different problems. Some more serious or long lasting side effects include premature balding or hair loss, dizziness, mood swings (anger, depression and aggression), hallucinations, extreme feelings of mistrust or fear, sleeping problems, vomiting and nausea, trembling, high blood pressure, aching joints, jaundice, liver damage, urinary problems, shortening of the final adult height, increased risk of developing heart disease, stroke.
Males and females have different disturbing effects of steroid. The effects of steroids on males include reduced sperm count, increase in nipple and breast size, impotence, and enlarged prostate. The effects of steroids on females include reduced breast size, increase in facial and body hair, menstrual problems, and deepened voice.
Steroids are referred to as roids, hype, juice, weight trainers, gym candy, stackers, Arnolds, or pumpers, are the same as or similar to, certain hormones in the body. There are many serious psychological side effects of steroids. Some of the users become aggressive or combative, developing ‘roid rage’ extreme.
